New Decal Pendants

I have now started experimenting more with decals in my fused glass pendants. Some examples are shown above - all of these pendants have a dichroic base and come with a black linen cord with sterling silver findings. They exhibited for sale in one of my co-operative arts and crafts galleries in North Devon.

Canal Du Midi

Yesterday was an enjoyable day spent walking along the Canal du Midi near Beziers. We crossed over the Orb Aqueduct with good views of Cathedrale St-Nazaire on the distant hillside and walked to the Fonseranes canal locks. These are a succession of seven locks emabling boats to negotiate a 21 metre change in level originally built in the 17th Century.

Dusk with the full moon and so warm. Still enjoying hot daytime sunshine here in the Languedoc although I am sure that it will cool down somewhat over the next few days or so. Paddled in the Mediterranean but the sea temperature has cooled down since last week. Our house is on the edge of the town overlooking the vineyards...

Portiragnes, Southern France

I left the UK in hot sunshine, drove over 1000km through France with the car roof down and arrived at our wonderful house exchange here in Portiragnes. The sunrise view from our bedroom window has proved to be spectacular every morning and the bright azure blue of the sky is an artists colour palette. These are the colours I love to use with my glass!

Another day at Appledore Crafts Company

Another day for me stewarding the famous Appledore Crafts Company http://www.appledorecraftscompany.co.uk. This gallery is found in the quaint fishing port and village of Appledore, North Devon. It is run as a co-operative venture and work by well-known local artists is displayed here with ceramics, wood, glass, metal, leather, textiles, baskets, furniture, studio pottery, jewellery, photography and printmaking. Definitely worth a special visit.

14 The Gallery, Torrington - Featured Artist for August

The gallery's featured artist for the month of August will be Sue Martin. A large exhibition of my fused glass art will be on display which will include some of my new work.

“The North Devon coastline inspires and encourages the use of colour, reflection and vibrancy in my fused glass dishes, panels, bowls, tiles, fish, clocks and jewellery. I love the stunning dichroic glass which I tend to incorporate in most of my pieces. The realms of flameworked glass beadmaking is another dimension of my work and these focal beads blend well with a mixture of silver jewellery.”

14 The Gallery is situated in the quaint pannier market of Great Torrington http://www.14thegallery.co.uk . The gallery is run by a group of local artists as a co-operative selling a wide range of art work in ceramics, wood, glass, textiles, oils, watercolour & jewellery which is all locally made.
For the month of July our featured artists are 'Devon Driftwood'

"Devon Driftwood evolved some years ago as a retirement hobby which it continues to be. Our mutual interest is scouring the beaches of North Devon to find those 'special' pieces of driftwood and creating clocks, mirrors, coat hooks, sculptures and lots more from whatever we find. We exhibit at local craft shows and whenever possible, donate to different charities."

Women Do Business Gala Dinner

On Wednesday evening the Women Do Business Gala Dinner was held at Dartington Hall, Devon where a huge number of women met together to for the annual awards and it was such a wonderful and inspirational evening. A group of us from 14 The Gallery, Torrington http://www.14thegallery.co.uk attended where we displayed our 'Devon Tree of Life'. This piece of art has been made to celebrate the gallery's 5th year of successful trading where each member artist has made a special piece in their own art media to hang. I made two large fused glass butterflies with hanging lampwork glass beads which looked great hanging with ceramics, textiles, metal and other artwork. This image shows me starting to add my work to the bare tree.

Tenerife

Still enjoying Tenerife sunshine but now looking forward to returning to my glassmaking in the UK. In the last few days here of course the unfortunate murder of the British woman has dominated our thoughts especially as she lived in the next apartment to us.
